A place of healing and hope.

SERVICES

Safe Haven Counseling provides the following services:

  • In person therapy (in Towson), with individuals that live in Maryland.
  • Online therapy from the comfort of your home (using HIPAA compliant software).

Child and Adolescent Therapy (5 - 17 years)

Most children I work with struggle with expressing their feelings and managing their emotions. This can manifest into behavior issues like crying, hitting others, yelling, or shutting down.

Most teenagers I work with struggle with not feeling seen, heard, or understood by their family or friends. This leads to increased anxiety, depression, low self esteem, or loneliness.

I provide a safe space for children and teenagers to share their feelings openly without judgement. I help them process any past or current traumatic experiences safely. I teach them healthy communication techniques, how to set boundaries, and how to connect with those around them. I also teach them healthy coping skills for managing complex emotions.

Adult Therapy (18+ years)

I provide therapy to adults of all ages, who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-confidence, relationship problems, life transitions (graduation, moving, divorce, losing friends, etc.), work stress, attachment issues, people pleasing, and grief.

Sometimes life can become "too much" and you find yourself feeling stressed, overwhelmed and unable to cope. This can affect your ability to function well at work, home or how you show up in your relationships. Seeking help to find balance again is the best gift you can give yourself.

I provide a safe space where you can feel comfortable being open and vulnerable to share your past and current struggles or traumas. I teach clients healthy communication through expressing their feelings, setting boundaries with those who violate them, breaking people pleasing habits, and learning healthy coping skills for complex emotions.

Brainspotting Therapy

Brainspotting therapy works by identifying, processing, and releasing sources of emotional pain, body pain, and trauma. If you struggle with unprocessed trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, or feeling stuck in life, Brainspotting may be a good option for you. It can help you release the emotions, pain and trauma that is stuck in your body, and therefore help you heal and sustain you to live a healthier life. Most clients report leaving a Brainspotting session feeling "lighter", "calmer", and "at peace".

Nature Informed Therapy

I am trained in Nature Informed Therapy, and I use nature as a co-therapist to assist clients in finding healing in their life. Exposure to trauma triggers the stress response in our brain. Nature automatically triggers the relaxation response in the brain, making you feel calmer once you are immersed in it. Nature also contains lots of metaphors and messages that add meaning and healing to your life. If you've tried talk therapy and it hasn't worked for you, nature therapy may be a better fit.

Sand Tray Therapy

Sand tray therapy uses sand and a variety of miniature figurines to create stories that represent a person's inner world. It offers a protected space that helps people process traumatic memories or uncomfortable experiences that are too difficult to talk about. Research shows that Sand tray therapy has been effective in helping both children and adults that struggle with anxiety, depression and trauma.

Supervision - Individual and Group

Catherine is a board approved supervisor in the state of Maryland. She loves working with new therapists (LGPCs), that are looking to learn and grow in their licensing journey. Sessions include discussion of challenging cases, as well as answering questions that come up in their LGPC journey like how to deal with transference, countertransference, imposter syndrome, termination, etc. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in either individual or group supervision.
